Message from the Commander

Summer is always a hectic time for us, and notably so this year having included support to the Olympic Games to our already rich mix of operational and training activity for the Royal Navy, Army and Royal Air Force.

Our commitment to the Games makes some disturbance to holiday plans unavoidable, and at a time when people across the Command are already digging deep in many other areas. I am grateful for your understanding about this and the unstinting effort I see in all of our units – and particularly so from our families.

We all await with interest the imminent announcements on the future Defence programme, and on the shape and capability of the Regular and Territorial Army we can expect to serve in 2020. As soon as the Defence Secretary has announced the Government’s plans to Parliament, I will ensure that all the changes are explained very clearly to everyone in the Command.

Meanwhile, I commend the well written articles in this edition of LZDZ. There is good coverage of our most recent activities, including some very challenging military exercises, as well as some impressive team and personal sporting achievements for charity.

Here’s hoping for the odd British gold medal to justify the effort in London 2012!

Carl Dixon CB OBE FRAeS RAF
