RAO Represents UK at World Powerlifting Championships

An Army officer from Wattisham station has won a major Powerlifting title at the recent World Single Lift Championships held in Autun, France.

Capt Neil Thomas MBE, the RAO of 3 Regt AAC, was part of the England Bench Press team and one of four members of the Combined Services Powerlifting Association (CSPA) that made history by becoming the first ever military team to retain the Military World Champion team title for a third successive year.

Neil pressed his way to victory with a 200kg bench press and on a majority decision narrowly missed a 220kg press. The event was attended by over 300 participants from 19 different countries. Earlier this year he was named as the Army and Combined Services Sports Official of the Year for his services to military and international level sport. He has now received automatic qualification to participate at the European Championships in Geneva in September as part of the GB team.
